Hooded Merganser


“Lophodytes Cucullatus”





This is a species of small duck and both sexes have crests that they can raise or lower. The male in particular has beautiful breeding plumage. They have a sawbill.

They are between 40 and 49cm in length

 They have a wingspan of 60 to 66cm 

They weigh in at 455 to 880g.






They dive to catch aquatic insects, crayfish, and small fish
