Hoopoe

“Upupa Epops”

This colourful bird was seen in Pisa in Italy.

If only I had taken some more photos!

I wasn’t as focused on birds then as I am now.

I guess I will have to go back again!

The Hoopoe is an exotic looking bird with black and white wings and a pink/brown crest that is raised when excited.

It does not breed in the uk but are often seen when they migrate and land on the south coast of England.

They eat insects and spiders.

They are between 26 and 28cm in length

They have a wingspan of 42 to 46cm

They weigh in at between 46 and 87g.

Around 100 birds land in the uk each year.
