Long Tailed  Tit

“Aegithalos Caudatus”

The long tailed tit is a common uk bird with its tail that is longer than its body and easily recognised colouring.

It has an undulating flight as it patrols the hedgerows looking for insects and seeds.

They are 14cm in length

They have a wingspan of 16 to 19cm

They weigh in at around 7 to 10g.

You will see them in woodlands parks and gardens but not in the far north and west of Scotland.

They can be seen all year round.

This lovely pink, black and white bird builds a domed nest and lines it with lots of feathers and lays between 8 and twelve eggs.

The average life expectancy of this bird is 2 years.
