“Pica Pica”






This chattering black and white bird is one of our most intelligent. When the sun shines on its plumage it takes on a purplish blue iridescent sheen.

They are a bunch of scavengers and can be seen all year round. This member of the crow family has had numbers quadruple in the last 35 years. 





It will raid the nest of songbirds for their eggs when feeding chicks. They are non migratory and rarely travel more than 10km from where they hatched. 

They are between 44 and 48cm in length

 They have a wingspan go 55cm

 They weigh in at around 200 to 249g 

and have an average lifespan of 5 years

They are famous for collecting anything shiny to decorate the nest.
