Snow Bunting
“Plectrophenax Nivalis”
The Snow Bunting has a striking white plumage particularly the male in summer.
The few that breed are in the uk mostly in Scotland.
I saw them on the summit of Ben Nevis.
We lived for a while in Fort William and after a long arduous climb we came across these beautiful birds.
Never having seen one before I had to google them to establish their breed .
They eat seeds and insects
They are 16cm in length
They have a wingspan of 32 to 38cm
They weigh in at 28 to 50g
There are only around 60 pairs breeding in the uk.
They are seen in winter from September to March.
