The Turnstone is a bird of mottled appearance with a brown and black underparts and black and white head and orange legs.They eat insects, crustaceans, and molluscs.

They are 21 to 24cm in length

 They have a wingspan of between 50 and 58cm

They weigh in at between 85 and 150g.
